Why ALT text matters on a product page
ALT text is what a screen reader says instead of the image, and what search engines read to understand what a photo shows. On a product page without it, every photo is silent: shoppers using assistive technology hear nothing, and image search has only the file name to go on.
What the scan flags
- Images with no ALT text, with the share of the product’s images affected.
- ALT text that is only a file name, such as .jpg, .png or .webp names.
- Both counted in the product’s SEO score, so you can sort your catalogue by what needs work first.
How the ALT text is written
Each image gets one short descriptive line, written from the product's name, options and details. The draft is honest about its limits: the app does not see the photo, so a line can be accurate for the product but miss what a particular image shows. That is why every image is listed on the review screen, where you can edit any line or untick ALT text altogether.

Questions
Does the app look at my photos?
No. ALT text is drafted from the product data (name, options, attributes, description), not from the image itself. That keeps it factual, but check that each line matches its photo, for example the right colour on a variant image.
Is ALT text charged separately?
No. One credit drafts everything for a product at once: search title, meta description, description, image ALT text and FAQ.
Can I keep the ALT text I already wrote?
Yes. ALT text is its own field on the review screen. Untick it to leave every image as it is.
Can I undo it?
Yes. The previous ALT text of every image is saved in History with the change, and restored in one click.
